Our big autumn tea party couldn’t be scheduled this year due to pandemic restrictions. However, eight months in, we are getting pretty good at figuring out how to make do with what we have and find joy close to home. I’d already been collecting a few autumn-hued linens and had pictured a garnet-themed fruit and cheese platter on my old copper tray as the centerpiece. I look forward to pulling out the fall dishes and décor because the fall palette is so different from my usual springy pinks and greens. The rich browns, copper and burgundies conjure up scenes of cozy, fireside chairs and wood-paneled libraries as settings for a warming afternoon tea. Lacking a wood-paneled library and facing up to the fact that it was still in the high nineties in mid-October, we decided to dress up Suzi’s pool cabana in fall colors and have an outdoor photo shoot and tea party for the mini crew. (By the way, all the food came from Trader Joe’s, except the beverages and the scones, which came from Starbuck’s. Sometimes, point-and-pay is the way!)
