Royal Icing is a simple combination of egg whites and powdered sugar. It will dry to a hard consistency, but it is sticky while it is still wet. Thus, it serves as a flat canvas for cookies and cakes that are decorated with colored sugars, pieces of fruit or nuts or decorative writing and designs.
